- After installing the extension. You click on the icon and can open GPX files.
GPX files are a file format used by several programs that create GPS data. These files contain information about the locations you have been, how long it took to get there and so on. For example, if you want to use Google Maps to show your location history, the GPX file will be used to do this.
What can you do with GPX files?
You can view them in Google Earth or other applications that support this format. You can also use them in mobile apps such as Runkeeper (for runners) or Strava (for cyclists).
How do they work?
GPX files are simple XML documents that contain information about waypoints (points along a route), tracks (routes) and routes (lists of waypoints).
GPX files can be opened with Google Earth by dragging the file onto the program's icon or by clicking "File" and then "Open." Google Earth will open all types of GPX files including those created using Garmin's Basecamp software program.
The GPX file format is supported by many software applications, including GpsPrune, MapSource, Garmin BaseCamp and many others.
